Hello, Analy Community—

...and happy spring!

It's hard for me to believe that in less than two months it will be Memorial Day—and we will be entering into the home stretch of the school year. Those last two weeks of school will be jam-packed with important events and fun activities—so I want to share the schedule with you now.

We wil have no school on Monday, May 27th to observe the Memorial Day holiday. The rest of that week will be unusual also: we will follow our typical 'Monday' schedule from Tuesday, May 28th to Thursday, May 30th. Senior day away will be Wednesday of that week. On Friday, May 31st, we will have a special schedule (see the image at left, or the link here) that will allow for exam review sessions for periods 7, 5, 1, and 3 (in that order) as well as our annual Day on the Green.

On Monday, June 3rd, we will hold our 1st period Final Exam, and then review sessions for periods 2, 4 and 6. On Tuesday, June 4th we will have 2nd and 6th period exams, while on Wednesday, June 5th, we will have 5th and 3rd period finals. On Thursday, June 6th we will hold final exams for periods 4 and 7 before celebrating the Analy High School class of 2024 at Graduation that evening. It will be here before you know it—we'll see you there!

Students interviewed Catherine Newman, author of We All Want Impossible Things, a novel that they are currently working on adapting for a film pitch project in Myers's Film & Lit class. She commented that these students asked her the best questions about her novel so far.

Students interviewed Stuart Turton, author of The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle, a novel that they are currently working on adapting for a film pitch project in Myers's Film & Lit class. We learned that his book is currently being adapted by HBO! Mr. Turton was funny and self-deprecating.

Hello families,

The third quarter has just come to a close! If you have concerns about your students grades, please look over our available resources on the school website (linked HERE) and reach out to your students' school counselor.

Students who have received a "D" or "F" in the first semester, or students who finish the second semester with a "D" or "F", will potentially need summer school. More information about summer school will be released soon via Parent Square.

Please contact your student's school counselor with any questions!

LGBTQiA+ Panel: Ethnic Studies students recently participated in an Intergenerational Conversation with LGBTQiA+ elders who shared their personal experiences of being part of the queer community and what pride means to them.

Cultural Package Exchange: Global Studies students have been hard at work assembling packages to be sent to Kenya, Taiwan, and other partner countries as part of a cultural package exchange.

Los Cien Youth Perspective: Shout out to Aliyah Contreras, who was part of the planning and design team for Los Cien’s Youth Perspective last month. Aliyah helped craft questions for the panelists from high schools across the county that reflect their observations, experiences, and concerns, covering topics such as school safety, cultural representation, and student well-being. We are so proud of you!

New Serving Line Equipment

If you haven’t had a chance to check out the new equipment in the Entrée of the Day Café, NOW IS THE TIME! Thanks to a Kitchen Infrastructure and Training Grant, we have streamlined this serving space with more efficient, modern equipment that we hope brings students a sense of pride in their breakfast and lunch experience! We are also now serving up a variety of entrée salads and deli sandwiches in our cold display cases and will soon carry complete meal grab and go boxes.

Breakfast Before School

If you show up to school before 8:30 hungry, then come see us in the Cafeteria (Pizza and Grill Window)! We have begun Breakfast Before School (B4B) where we offer a variety of breakfast items, fruit, juice and milk to get you going before class from 8:10 to about 8:25 in the morning.

Please remember, if you grab B4B, Brunch is not free (only $2 if you are still hungry though, as the California Universal Meals program only allows us to offer one free breakfast meal/day). So come on in! We’ll even have some tunes playing to help wake you up and get your day started right (requests welcome!!!).

It is our goal here in the WSCUHSD Food and Nutrition Services Department to continue to grow our meal program. We appreciate your patience as we grow and expand!

The Class of 2023 donated funds to buy comfy furniture for the library to make it feel more welcoming to our students.  Mrs McClelland, our Librarian, ordered comfy couches for our front area, our Maintenance Department painted the walls with a fresh coat of paint, and then our Woodshop students built a shelf to go behind the couches to look great and hold the devices for students to charge their phones and Chromebooks.  It's the new favorite spot in the Library!
